Asian Fried Chicken – Where Fitness Meets Flavor

Last Thursday, the sun was shining, the breeze was perfect, and I found myself on a little culinary adventure that turned out to be anything but ordinary. I was invited by Mr. Anand, the owner of Asian Fried Chicken, to try out what he confidently described as not your regular fried chicken outlet—and let me tell you, he wasn’t exaggerating.

Walking in, I expected the usual fried fare, but what I discovered blew me away. As a fitness instructor, I’ve trained myself to look past the cravings and stick to clean, nourishing meals. So imagine my surprise when I found a menu that not only tempted my taste buds but also respected my health goals.

Mr. Anand’s approach is revolutionary. Yes, they serve fried chicken—but it’s elevated with bold Asian spices, creative techniques, and a mindful touch. There are grilled options with just the right amount of char, baked bites that still have a satisfying crunch, and sides that are fresh, light, and far from greasy.

One dish that stole my heart? The fried chicken thigh marinated in a tangy blend of Southeast Asian spices, tomyam wrapped in golden crisp, and served with a zesty lemon. It was everything I needed—flavor-packed, high-protein, and clean. It felt indulgent but aligned perfectly with my diet.

And let’s talk about the Chicken Karaage—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, marinated with fragrant Asian spices, and served with a dipping sauce that hits all the right notes. It’s a Japanese-inspired dish that delivers the comfort of fried chicken, with a lighter, cleaner finish. I couldn’t stop at just one bite!

What I loved most was the balance. Asian Fried Chicken doesn’t preach about health—it lives it. The team understands that food should fuel the body and feed the soul. Whether you’re deep in training or just want a flavorful meal without the post-binge guilt, this place has your back.

To wash it all down, I was treated to three refreshing local cooling drinks that truly elevated the meal:

  • A cooling cucumber drink, light and hydrating, with a touch of mint that instantly revived me.
  • And a pandan cooling drink—aromatic, soothing, and subtly sweet. It paired beautifully with the bold flavors of the food and left me feeling refreshed instead of heavy.
  • Assam Boi with lime– Tangy, salty-sweet, and super refreshing. This one’s for the bold flavor lovers! My choice-my favourite!

Just when I thought the meal couldn’t get any better, dessert arrived—a tantalising, not-a-sin Chia Pudding. Creamy, subtly sweet, and topped with fresh mango fruit and a drizzle of natural honey/syrup, this dessert was a revelation. It was the perfect ending: light, satisfying, and totally unexpected. For us health freaks, it felt like a treat without a single ounce of guilt. I could have this every day and still stay on track!

Bonus? They offer lunch packages starting from just RM13.90!
Yes—you read that right. Delicious, balanced, and affordable. Whether you’re on a break from work, a busy student, or a fitness lover looking for a quick, clean bite, these lunch deals are a total win.

And here’s something that warmed my heart as a family-oriented fitness enthusiast—
Asian Fried Chicken offers a dedicated kids meal menu that’s both fun and nourishing. Each meal is thoughtfully portioned and designed to appeal to younger palates, without resorting to overly processed ingredients.

Some of the kids meal highlights include:

  • Mini chicken karaage bites – crisp, lightly seasoned, and perfect for little hands.
  • Steamed rice or nasi lemak/nasi goreng – as a balanced base.
  • A side of veggies – like crunchy sweet potato fries.
  • Fresh fruit cups – a naturally sweet ending that parents can feel good about.
  • Spaghetti with broccoli
  • Kid-friendly drink – like chocolate, mild pandan-infused water or fresh juice.

It’s a great way to introduce kids to real food flavors in a playful, health-conscious way. Whether you’re dining in with family or grabbing something on the go, this thoughtful touch makes it easy to bring your little ones along without compromising on nutrition.

What I loved most was the balance. Asian Fried Chicken doesn’t preach about health—it lives it. The team understands that food should fuel the body and feed the soul. Whether you’re deep in training or just want a flavorful meal without the post-binge guilt, this place has your back.

So, if you’re a fellow fitness freak (like me), or someone just trying to make healthier choices without sacrificing taste, Asian Fried Chicken is a spot worth checking out. Thank you, Mr. Anand, for showing me that “fried” doesn’t have to mean “forget your goals.”

Until the next delicious discovery!

SOLO Under the Stars: Race Review- ULTRON 21KM Night Half Marathon Putrajaya 2025

This race was supposed to be one for the books — not just because it was a 21KM night run, but because I had signed up to do it with my partner-in-crime, my workout sister, my training buddy — Debbie. We had visualised this race, talked about strategy, prepped gear together, and even planned to car pool together for the race.

Oplus_131072

But sometimes life has other plans. Debbie wasn’t feeling well and had to pull out on race day. I was crushed for her, and honestly, a little nervous for me. I’d never run a race this long solo.

Still, I laced up. For both of us.

The Start Line Energy

There were about 3,500 runners in total, with 1,500 of us registered for the 21KM. The energy was electric. Music blared, runners stretched and bounced on the balls of their feet, and you could feel the nervous excitement in the air.

The organisers kicked things off with a Zumba warm-up by Zin Khalid — but not your average dance party. This was runner-modified cardio, targeting the muscles we’d need most. It was smart, energising, and actually kind of fun. A nice way to settle the nerves.

5KM of Flow… and Then Came the Hills

At exactly 8PM, we were off. The first 5KM were smooth. Cool night air, fresh legs, everyone finding their rhythm. I kept a steady pace and reminded myself to take it all in.

But then… we hit the hills. And they just. kept. coming.

I thought maybe it was just one bad climb, but no — it turned into a full-blown hill-fest. Legs burning, lungs working overtime, I realised this race wasn’t just physical anymore. It was becoming a serious mental game.

The Real Challenge: Mind Over Muscle

Past the halfway point, I saw what every runner dreads — fellow runners pulling up with cramps, sitting on the side nursing injuries, some just walking with faces full of frustration or pain. People were clearly hitting their walls, (runners calls it -BOINK) but what blew me away was how many kept going.

Even limping, even hobbling — there was one thing on everyone’s mind: FINISH.

And despite the personal battle each of us was fighting, there was so much support. Runners sharing salt tablets. Strangers checking on each other. Marshalls clapping. Hydration stations with smiling volunteers who felt like angels with paper cups.

I might have been running solo, but I was far from alone.

The Finish Line: Victory in Every Step

As I approached the final stretch, emotions hit hard. This wasn’t just about the distance — it was about the journey. The solo-ness. The resilience. The fact that I showed up and kept going, even when every part of me wanted to stop.

Crossing that finish line felt different this time.

It was personal.
It was proof.
It was powerful.

Final Thoughts

Would I do this race again? In a heartbeat.
Would I want Debbie beside me next time? 100%.
But for this one night, I carried both of us. And I learned that even alone, I’m capable of more than I think.

To everyone who ran that night — you’re warriors. And to the runners who didn’t finish? You’re warriors, too. Showing up was already a win.

Here’s to running under the stars, conquering hills, and discovering strength in solitude.

Until the next one 🖤

Mother’s Day Hi-Tea at Royale Chulan Seremban- A Celebration of Love, Laughter, and Flavours

This year’s Mother’s Day was nothing short of magical as I spent the day with my queen of the heart — my beloved mummy — celebrating her unconditional love at Royale Chulan Seremban’s Mother’s Day Hi-Tea.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Chef Suresh, The Exec Chef and his team did a fantastic job with the food spread and service as they greeted us and The coffee house was dressed beautifully for the occasion, with soft lighting, elegant table settings, and a gentle buzz of families chatting and laughing, creating a calm yet lively ambiance that instantly put everyone in a celebratory mood.

We started our afternoon with the salad bar — and it quickly became my personal favourite! Crisp, fresh greens, an array of toppings, and a variety of dressings made for endless delicious combinations. I built two plates full of vibrant, crunchy salads, and still wanted more.

Then came the hearty selections:

  • Creamy mushroom soup, perfectly seasoned and paired with warm bread rolls.
  • Salmon salad, fresh and refreshing, with tender slices of salmon and bright bursts of citrus.
  • Pasta, cooked al dente and tossed in rich, flavorful sauces that comforted the soul.
  • Lasagna, layered with cheese and savory meat sauce, baked to golden perfection.
  • Sambal udang petai, a bold dish packed with the punchy flavours of spicy prawns and the unmistakable aroma of petai beans.
  • Lamb curry, slow-cooked to tender excellence, with a depth of spices that lingered wonderfully on the palate.

For traditional Malaysian bites, they offered seri muka, a soft, rich pandan-flavored dessert with a glutinous rice base, and crispy pisang goreng (fried banana), hot and sweet — a nostalgic delight.

At the dessert station, we built our own bowls of ABC (Ais Batu Campur), a mountain of shaved ice drizzled with syrup, evaporated milk, and loaded with red beans, jelly, and sweet corn — the perfect ending to a rich meal. A wide selection of cakes and pastries lined the counters, each more tempting than the last.

Of course, what’s a perfect afternoon without coffee? I treated myself to two cups of cappuccino — foamy, strong, aromatic — and a latte that was creamy and comforting. By the third cup, I was buzzing with energy (and happiness)!

Adding even more fun to the event was the batik decorating contest — a wonderful interactive touch that had both adults and children laughing, focusing, and competing with cheerful spirit. It brought a vibrant, creative energy to the room.

The service at Royale Chulan truly deserves high praise. A standout among the staff was Ms. Stephanie, who made our experience extraordinary. She was ever-smiling, attentive to every little need, and carried herself with a professionalism and warmth that genuinely impressed us. It’s rare to see someone so hardworking and yet so gracious — she was a big part of what made the day so memorable.

Throughout the afternoon, we lived through a rainbow of emotions — mummy nagged (as mothers do), we exchanged jokes, reminisced, shared dreams, teased one another, argued a little (inevitable, but funny in retrospect), and laughed until we shed tears of happiness. It was a beautiful, real, heartfelt experience that no fancy gift could ever replace.

Final Thoughts

Royale Chulan, Seremban Mother’s Day Hi-Tea wasn’t just an event — it was a heartfelt experience. The luxurious spread, cozy ambiance, fun activities, outstanding service, and most importantly, the chance to slow down and truly be present with my mum made it a day I’ll treasure forever.

I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to create unforgettable moments with their loved ones.

Thank you, Royale Chulan, for making Mother’s Day 2025 a memory stitched forever into my heart.

Mother’s Day Celebration at Arena Boutique Hotel: A Night of Food, Friendship, and Memories

This Mother’s Day was one for the books. I had the privilege of celebrating with my amazing workout friends — all incredible mothers — at the beautiful Arena Boutique Hotel. It wasn’t just a dinner; it was a celebration of everything we’ve been through together — the laughs, the struggles, and the victories.

The Food:
The buffet spread was impressive — a colorful and mouthwatering mix that pleased both our fit-foodie sides and our indulgent-mom cravings.

  • Seafood station: Fresh prawns, mussels, and oysters that tasted like a little trip to the ocean.

Baked Salmon: A Simple Dish, Done Beautifully

When done right, baked salmon is pure magic — and this one truly delivered. The salmon was served elegantly, with a slight golden crust on top and a vibrant, juicy center. A sprinkle of fresh herbs added a pop of color that made the dish feel as fresh as it looked.

  • Taste and Texture: Perfectly cooked — moist, tender, and flaking beautifully at the touch of a fork. The seasoning was balanced: just enough salt, pepper, and a hint of lemon to highlight the natural richness of the fish without overpowering it. There was a light buttery glaze that added a silky finish, but it didn’t feel heavy or greasy. Every bite melted in the mouth, delivering that wonderful buttery-ocean flavor you hope for in salmon.
  • Sides: Paired with a simple medley of roasted broccoli and cauliflowers and a zesty sauce, it made for a light but satisfying meal. The sides complemented the salmon’s richness perfectly, making it feel complete without being overwhelming.
  • Overall Impression: A classic dish, skillfully prepared. This baked salmon was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying — proof that sometimes the simplest dishes are the hardest to perfect, and the most rewarding when they are eaten with family and friends.
  • Local and international delights: There was something for everyone, from creamy pastas to aromatic curries and healthier grilled options.

Sambal Mussels: A Fiery Seafood Delight

If you’re a fan of bold flavors and fresh seafood, sambal mussels are a must-try — and this dish completely stole the show. The mussels were served piping hot, generously coated in a rich, deep-red sambal sauce that looked both inviting and intimidating (in the best way). A sprinkle of fresh cilantro and lime wedges on the side added a fresh, vibrant touch.

Taste and Texture:
The mussels themselves were plump, juicy, and perfectly cooked — no rubbery textures here. They soaked up all the spicy, savory goodness of the sambal. The sambal was full of punch: smoky, slightly sweet, with a slow-building heat that made you keep reaching for the next mussel, even while wiping away a little sweat! The balance of spice, garlic, and a hint of tanginess made each bite exciting without overpowering the natural sweetness of the seafood.

Sides:
Served with fluffy white rice and a cooling cucumber salad — the perfect companions to temper the fiery kick.

Overall Impression:
This sambal mussel dish was a flavor explosion. It delivered everything you want from a spicy seafood dish: fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and a little bit of a “wow” factor. Whether you’re a spice lover or just someone who enjoys authentic, vibrant cuisine, these sambal mussels are a winner.

Butter Prawns: A Golden, Buttery Indulgence

When you think of comfort seafood, butter prawns definitely top the list — and this dish was everything I hoped for and more.

Presentation:
The prawns were beautifully arranged, glistening under a silky golden butter sauce. Light, crispy bits of fried egg floss were sprinkled over the top, giving the dish an elegant and mouth-watering finish.

Taste and Texture:
Each prawn was perfectly cooked — juicy, tender, and sweet. The butter sauce was the real star: creamy, rich, and aromatic, with just the right balance of savory and sweet. There was a hint of curry leaves and mild chili in the sauce that added a subtle spice and fragrance without overpowering the buttery goodness. The crispy egg floss gave a delightful light crunch that made every bite interesting and satisfying.

Sides:
It paired wonderfully with fragrant white rice, which soaked up every drop of that addictive butter sauce.

Overall Impression:
These butter prawns were pure indulgence — rich, flavorful, and so satisfying without feeling heavy. It’s the kind of dish you find yourself thinking about long after the meal is over. A true classic executed perfectly!

Salad bar: For those of us trying to balance the feasting, the salad station was well-stocked and fresh.

Desserts: Decadent little cakes, fruity tarts, and a strawberry pie, tiramisu and ice-cream that brought out our inner kids!

The Atmosphere:

Arena Boutique Hotel created a cozy, inviting space that felt just right. It wasn’t too loud, so we could really talk — and oh, did we talk! We laughed until we cried, shared hilarious horror stories about motherhood, our workout regime, our personal training stories, and even got a little teary-eyed remembering the hard moments we’ve survived.

The Company:
There’s something so powerful about being with women who “get it.” We bonded deeper over stories, cheered each other on, and made sweet new memories that we’ll be smiling about for a long time.

Final Thoughts:
Amazing food, beautiful ambiance, and even more beautiful friendships. It was a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, nights like these — where we nourish our bodies and souls — are so needed.

Thank you, Arena Boutique Hotel, for making our Mother’s Day magical.

Putrajaya Women’s Half Marathon 21KM Race Review 2025— Running with Sole Mates

The Putrajaya Women’s Half Marathon was unforgettable — not just because of the race, but because of the amazing memories made with my running sole mates.

A day before the event, I got a panicked (but hilarious) message from Yvonne:
“CHRIS! I SIGNED UP ACCIDENTALLY FOR 21KM!” It was supposed to be her first ever half marathon — a virgin 21KM! We laughed it off, and I reassured her she was more than ready for it.

We made a great call by staying at the DoubleTree Hilton — it was only about 700 meters from the race venue. Super convenient, and definitely the best decision! The morning (well, middle of the night) started early. We woke up at 2:00 AM and took turns getting ready. I stuck to my normal pre-race routine: coffee and a peanut butter sandwich to fuel up.

At 3:30 AM, Yvonne and I left the room while Harvin tried to catch a few more Z’s — she was gearing up for her 10KM later, but admitted sleep wasn’t happening with all the race excitement. On our way to the starting line, we met Prachana, a runner from Thailand, and the three of us walked together in the cool, quiet walking paths along the lake side.

Once at the venue, we met up with our running team mates, Visha and Viru, and the excitement in the air was electric. Everyone was buzzing with nerves and anticipation. We chatted, took photos, and soaked in the pre-race energy, meeting other excited runners along the way. The vibe was electric — smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of “we’re really doing this!”

At 4:30 AM sharp, it was finally time.
We were ready to rumble.
Hear us roar!

The race kicked off with a narrow path — not ideal for the first few hundred meters. We had to stay patient, weaving carefully through the crowd, and parked cars by the roadside, trying not to trip or surge too fast, weaving through the crowd to find our own pace. It took a little while, but soon enough, we settled into our rhythm — the sound of hundreds of feet stomping against the ground around us was strangely comforting, almost like a battle drum pushing us forward.

Once we found our space, we settled into a comfortable pace. The sound of feet stomping the ground was powerful — almost hypnotic. It was cool, it drizzled lightly, and honestly, it felt perfect for running. The roads were wide and scenic once we broke out of the start, with Putrajaya’s iconic bridges and buildings lit up softly in the early dawn.

The Race Journey

Kilometers ticked by steadily. The water stations were well-stocked and cheerful volunteers handed out drinks with big smiles and loud cheers — they kept our spirits high.

Yvonne was amazing. She told me, “I got this, you go ahead and find your pace, see you at the finishing line”. Despite her initial nerves, she found her rhythm and kept pushing forward bravely. We paced each other, shared words of encouragement, and kept reminding ourselves: one step, one breath at a time.

Around the halfway point, the drizzle got slightly heavier but never enough to be annoying — it was refreshing. We felt strong.

We passed beautiful parts of Putrajaya — winding roads, bridges arching over calm waters, and landscaped gardens. Even at that early hour, the city looked magical under the soft morning light.

But somewhere after the halfway mark — around KM15 — things got confusing. There were still no distance markers in sight. Runners around us were starting to get anxious, exchanging puzzled looks, asking aloud, “How much further?” “Are we even at KM15 yet?”

The streets of Putrajaya were quiet, almost eerily lonely, with barely anyone around except fellow runners.
It felt like we were just… floating forward, unsure exactly how much we had left to push. Mentally, it was tough. Not knowing your exact position in the race messes with your pacing and patience.

But we leaned on each other — chatting, checking our watches, keeping the mood light even when our legs were getting heavier. We just told ourselves: “Keep going. Trust your body, not the markers.”

The drizzle continued to cool us down, and the beautiful, empty roads gave the run a strange, serene beauty — almost like the city was ours alone for a little while.

The Final Stretch and Finish Line Magic

After what felt like forever, somewhere past KM19, someone in the crowd shouted:
“Just two more kilometers to go!”

It was an unbelievable moment. Our tired bodies suddenly found new life. We were grinning from ear to ear, realizing — it’s almost done! We whispered and shouted to ourselves: “You got this!” “Your battle is halfway won!”

The sound of music floated through the air near the finish area, lifting everyone’s spirits even higher.
Smiling faces were everywhere — tired, sweaty, but absolutely radiant with pride and joy.

I spotted Yvonne, Viru, Yun Ling, and Visha along the way — all pushing forward, determined and shining.
Then came Harvin and Hema, strong and smiling, finishing their 10KM race with so much heart.
Prachana — our friend from Thailand — had absolutely crushed it earlier, clocking an impressive 2 hours and 15 minutes. What an iron lady, and she traveled all the way from Mantin to run this!

At the finish line, we were swept up in pure celebration. We hugged, we cheered, and yes — we took a ton of sweaty, glorious photos. Each runner received a beautiful stalk of rose — such a thoughtful and lovely touch. We did our victory dance right there at the finish, ignoring the aches and pains.

Sure, a few of us broke toenails (ouch!) and injured a few toes — the real battle scars of a runner — but it didn’t matter. We were still grinning, still smiling, still feeling on top of the world.

There were tears, laughter, happiness — all blending into one big, beautiful memory we’ll never forget.

Closing Reflection

Running the Putrajaya Women’s Half Marathon wasn’t just about covering 21KM. It was about pushing limits, finding joy in the struggle, celebrating victories big and small, and sharing it all with a sisterhood that lifts each other higher.

To all my running sole mates — thank you for making it unforgettable. Putrajaya, we’ll be back. Stronger, louder, and even more ready to roar!

Race Pros & Cons

Pros:
Beautiful Race Course: Wide, scenic roads through the iconic sights of Putrajaya — especially magical in the cool early morning light.
Cool Weather: The light drizzle and lower temperatures made for excellent running conditions.
Great Vibes: Friendly runners, supportive volunteers, and an all-women’s race energy that felt empowering and joyful.
Accommodation Proximity: Staying at DoubleTree Hilton (700m from the start line) was a total game changer for stress-free race morning logistics.
Strong Medal and Race Pack: The medal design and event tee were top-notch — great keepsakes!

Cons:
⚠️ Lack of Distance Markers: From the midway point (around KM15), there were few to no visible markers. Many runners were left guessing how much farther they had to go, which made pacing and mental endurance more challenging.
⚠️ Lonely Stretches: Some parts of the route were extremely quiet and isolated — while beautiful, it could feel mentally tough, especially for first-time half marathoners.
⚠️ Congested Start: The narrow beginning made it hard to find a comfortable pace early on — a slightly wider start area would have made a big difference.
