Shamrock Run 2018

I became a runner who wasn’t training for any particular race. Running was just something I did. People and friends would ask me what I was training for and I would reply “life”. My ‘sole- mate, my hubby was the dose of maturity I needed to run long distances. He helped foster my self-belief, resist the urge to surge and above all run run run!

To me, running is an adventure that has produced beautiful lessons, truths involving friendships and incredible amount of dedication and courage!

So, if you think you are too old, too slow or simple too-out- of shape to run further than a few miles, then prepare to be convinced otherwise. With the Shamrock Run 2018 which will take place 31 March 2018 at Stadium Arena, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, in case it is not in your diary! I urge you to lace up and surprise yourselves! For the 10km and 5km Fun run it covers, they say, the perfect distances to challenge both body and mind. The 10km and 5km Fun run gobbles up less of your time for preparation, yet will reap endless benefits!

Shamrock Run 2018 offers a fun challenge and a refreshing way to GO GREEN and get outdoors and enjoy and hang out with family and friends.

“Save the sea”- A beach Cleaning by Thistle Port Dickson Resort

We love our beach days so much, chilling with the children and family and soaking up the sun……. The best ever! And if we want to keep it up, we must keep the beach clean.

Did you know that by this year (2018) over 5.28 trillion pieces of plastic are in our oceans? Over 269, 000 tons of debris roam the surface and kill more than 200,000 members of the marine life a year……and the number is rising! The best way to stop this is to prevent more trash from going into our beautiful oceans!

Last Saturday, 10 March 2018, Thistle Port Dickson Resort with collaboration with the Children from New Life Care Centre, Port Dickson, SWM Environment Sdn Bhd together with the employees of Thistle Port Dickson Resort and I also brought along my students representing Pusat Tuisyen Intelegensia Elit Seremban for the “Save the Sea”- A beach Cleaning Event which the objective of emphasising the importance of a cleaner shoreline and litter free ocean.

We were warmly welcomed by the Public Relations Manager, Ms Irene Wong and was ushered to Cumulus. It was a lovely morning, birds chirping, the sea breeze gently blowing, the sound of the ocean and waves hitting the shorelines….I even spotted a rainbow!

We were led by the Recreational Team for the morning exercise. The children were excited, all were rocking and dancing the zumba. Even the General Manager, Mr Eusebius Samm and his Head of Departments joined in the fun filled Zumba work out! Everyone was pumped up with smiling and with sweaty faces but excitement filled the air.

In coalition with SWM Environment Sdn Bhd, The Public Relations Officer, Cik Mariam gave a short briefing about Recycling. The talk in educating the young and also old alike that littering has to stop and to inculcate the need to separate waste amd recycle them for a clean, safe and healthy environment to be enjoyed by all living creatures and beings. She also emphasised on the importance of the 3R- Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.

The children were divided into five teams together with the employees of Thistle Port Dickson Resort. Each team were given cleaning equipments such as gloves, garbage bags, rakes etc. They were given an hour to clean up the beach and the winners were indentified with the heaviest garbage collected.

They marched along the 1km stretch of the beach to rake up dried leaves while collecting discarded plastic bottles, polystyrene containers and driftwood. All the litter they collected filled up about 10 large bags weighing 263.5 kg of rubbish.

Prizes, hampers and a little red packet surprise (ang pow) were given to the winners and the participants from Thistle Port Dickson Resort. In an ongoing effort with related organisations and authorities, Thistle Port Dickson Resort is committed to continually maintain the cleanliness of its shorelines. We made the ocean smile today……

Encourage everyone! We’re pretty sure almost everyone has a place in their heart for the beach, so pass on the word, help keep the beach clean, our marine life safe and the beach beautiful!

Race Review : 5KM Fun Run Malaysia Women Marathon 2018

You love running. You love your kids. The idea of running a race with your kids combines two of your passions and can only amount to an all-around wonderful experience. You will spend the time together bonding while you run. You will take in the scenery, get some good exercise and cross the finish line holding hands and smiling. You will exchange high fives as your children glow with a sense of accomplishment.

What a fun race and lively vibe throughout the race. The marshals were awesome cheering you all the way, I am definitely doing this 5km fun run again.

The weather at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam was perfect running weather, thank you to the organisers who put in that order, little to no wind, not too warm and sunny. A little congested at the start but not a train smash when you stand inside the crowd.

The Malaysia Women Marathon 2018 race started with the full marathon 42km category at 4am, silenced,so that you could hear the gun and off they went….! Up next was the half marathon 21km category which was flagged off at 5.30am followed by the 10km at 7.00am and then it was the 5km fun run category at 7.15am.

The 5km route itself was great-fairly no frills, but we had two water/aid stations. It was well marked and had plenty of volunteers. The starting times were staggered that people did not run into each other, which I liked, and all the races started on time.

After you crossed the finish line, it’s super organised. You get your flower, your ‘bling’-medal, can take pictures, get water and refreshments, hang out with awesome runners and just chill and have fun…….Girls just wanna have fun!!

Running allows you to inspire others. Ever wonder how you started running? Chances are, you were inspired by someone you know or someone you read about….For me, it is because of my beautiful mother, Eunice Philomena Beins.Well, you are someone’s else’s inspiration. YES, YOU! YOU! YOU! Just like how I was inspired by my mother, a breast cancer survivor, right now, at this moment, you are inspiring someone else to lace up their shoes and go out for a run! See you next year MWM! Isn;t that a great feeling! Happy International Women’s Day!
