I run because I can……and as long as I can, I will!! Why? Well, I know it sounds a little crazy, but here’s my story.
You see, 3 years ago…..my life came crumbling down and at that very moment in my life, my life just took a sharp turn. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and everything just stopped! It felt like thousands of needles pierced into my heart at that very moment. I was numb, depressed and overweight and my greatest fear is that I am also on high risk chances of getting cancer. I am a mother of three children, two beautiful girls and a wonderful son. But instead of acknowledging that voice within, I filled the void with lots of comfort food and lack of exercise.
Then, my beloved husband took me for a vacation to Phuket, Thailand, we went for a short hike that made something in me awoke. In that moment, for the very first time in I don’t remember how long, I began to feel alive again. It was if I was being reinvigorated by the energy of the sea, the waves, the forest and the breeze. Running became my mission! If your goal doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you! My husband is my greatest motivator. We run together for most of the marathons. This was the truth… I run because I can!
While reflecting on the many lessons learnt on this journey, one of the most important is to “always do what you think it is impossible..but always remember to make the impossible be possible!
“So live healthy, live boldly, live big.” Don’t ask me why I run but ask yourself why you don’t!

Hi Christine. I just briefly read your blog and like your story. My mum recently just died of breast cancer too & I’m still grieving as I miss her a lot. I’ve been a runner for a very long time and I too find it hard to get ppl to run & sometimes I feel like telling them don’t start exercising when it’s too late. I hope to meet and run with you someday. Keep inspiring!
