Race Review: 21KM Half Marathon – Danang International Marathon Vietnam

What an unforgettable experience at the Danang International Marathon!

We took a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Da Nang International Airport, and everything started off smoothly. A pre-arranged Grab was waiting for us—completely hassle-free. And honestly, our driver felt like an F1 racer… fast and furious 😄 but got us to our destination safely!

Upon arrival, we checked in at Paracel Hotel Danang, dropped off our bags at the lobby, and headed straight to the race expo. The best part? It was only about 1KM away! Super convenient.

The location itself was absolutely stunning—beautiful coastal views and such a lively setting. Collecting our race packs was quick and seamless, leaving us plenty of time to soak in the atmosphere. We snapped lots of photos, met runners from all over the world, and truly felt the energy of the event.

The vibe? Electric. Vibrant. Inspiring.

This is what the running community is all about—connection, passion, and shared goals.

Can’t wait to hit the starting line!

📍 Race Expo & First Impressions

One of the best parts about our stay was the location. The race expo and event venue were just about 1KM from the hotel—super convenient and perfect for pre-race preparation.

The walk there already set the tone. The coastal views were absolutely stunning, and there was a calm yet exciting energy in the air.

Collecting our race packs was smooth and efficient—no long waits, no confusion. Everything was clearly organized. With that done, we had time to truly enjoy the experience—taking photos, soaking in the atmosphere, and connecting with runners from all over the world.

The vibe?
Buzzing, vibrant, and full of life. 🌍✨

It’s always inspiring to be surrounded by people who share the same passion.

Race Morning – The Build-Up

Race morning arrived with a mix of excitement and nerves—the kind that reminds you this matters.

Standing at the starting line in Da Nang, surrounded by thousands of runners, was an experience in itself. There was a quiet focus, but also an unspoken connection between everyone there.

Different goals, different journeys—but one shared moment.

The Race – 21KM of Challenge & Growth

From the start, I focused on staying controlled. The first few kilometers felt strong—breathing steady, pace comfortable, mind calm.

Then came one of the most memorable parts of the race—crossing the bridges.

First Bridge

The first bridge felt empowering. Legs were still fresh, rhythm was there, and confidence was high. It was one of those moments where everything feels aligned.

The Turning Point – After 10KM

After the 10KM mark, the race began to change.

The second bridge appeared—and with it, the uphill climb.

This was no longer just a run.
This was a test.

The incline felt long and demanding. Legs grew heavier, breathing deeper, and every step required intention. It wasn’t just physical anymore—it became mental.

That inner voice starts to speak:

  • “Slow down”
  • “Take a break”
  • “This is enough”

But this is where endurance is built.

Step by step, I chose to keep going.

💧 Organisation & Support

One thing that truly stood out was how well-organized the race was.

  • Distance markers were clear and consistent—helping to mentally break the race into smaller, manageable segments
  • Marshals were present throughout the course—encouraging, guiding, and ensuring safety
  • Water stations were strategically placed and very well managed—exactly when you needed them

These details may seem small, but during a race, they make a huge difference. They keep you focused, supported, and moving forward.

The Final Stretch – Mind Over Matter

As the final kilometers approached, fatigue became real.

Legs were tired. Energy was dipping. But the finish line was getting closer.

This is where everything comes together—not just your training, but your mindset.

I reminded myself:

  • Why I started
  • The discipline behind every training session
  • The commitment to show up

And with that… one step at a time, I pushed through. Then, I saw my hubby waiting for me about 500m from the finishing line, hand in hand we ran together, holding our Jalur Gemilang and crossing the finish line together!

The Finish Line – A Moment to Remember

Crossing the finish line was pure emotion.

Relief.
Pride.
Gratitude.

Every challenge along the way made that moment even more meaningful. It wasn’t just about completing 21KM—it was about overcoming doubt, pushing limits, and proving to myself that I could.

Lessons from Da Nang

This race gave me more than just a medal. It gave me perspective.

  • Trust your training—it shows up when it matters most
  • Respect the course—especially the hills
  • Endurance is as much mental as it is physical
  • Small moments (support, scenery, energy) carry you through
  • Enjoy the journey, not just the finish line

Final Thoughts

The Danang International Marathon was more than just a race—it was an experience.

From seamless travel, a vibrant race expo, breathtaking views, and a challenging yet rewarding course… everything came together beautifully.

And most importantly—it reminded me why I run.

To grow. To challenge myself. To feel alive.

Already looking forward to the next start line.
